Der Friedensweg in Sankt Ottilien möchte den Menschen zum eigenen inneren Frieden führen. Friede im eigenen Herzen ist kein selbstverständlicher Besitz. Er muss in unentwegter Auseinandersetzung auf dem Weg des Lebens neu gewonnen werden. Schon dadurch wird der Friedensweg, den ich von Station zu Station gehe, ein Symbol meiner täglichen Lebenswanderung. Im Gehen und Ruhen bei den Wegstationen können wir unseren Lebensrhythmus tiefer begreifen als Pilgerweg, auf dem wir Gott entgegenreifen im Dienst an den Menschen und versöhnt mit meiner Lebensgeschichte.

Das Leben von Pater Andreas Amrhein (1844–1927), Gründer der Missionsbenediktiner von Sankt Ottilien und der Missions-Benediktinerinnen von Tutzing, verlief in vieler Hinsicht ungewöhnlich und widersprüchlich. Während seine Gründungen heute weltweit tätig sind und ihr Wirken in Teilen gut erforscht ist, wird der Gründer selbst meist nur kursorisch präsentiert. Dabei wird übersehen, dass nur über ein vertieftes Verständnis der Gründerpersönlichkeit manche Entwicklungen der Kongregationen richtig gedeutet werden können. Die hier vorgelegte Biographie möchte einen möglichst umfassenden Einblick in das Denken und Handeln Amrheins im Kontext der Zeitgeschichte und damit einen Beitrag zur Erforschung des Gründungscharismas der missionsbenediktinischen Kongregationen bieten.
