Manipur is a small state situated in the northeast of India, bordering Myanmar (Burma). The present everyday situation is marked by constant violent conflicts between different ethnic groups. In this scenario of crime and violence, the local Church in Manipur has the imperative task of building peace and fostering social harmony. Such engagement would ascertain the authenticity of the Church in carrying out its mission of “proclaiming the gospel of peace” (EG 239). This study will present technical skills and knowledge in peacebuilding based on peace concepts of the Catholic Church, with due reference to the conceptual and practical frameworks of John Paul Lederach. Since, the acquisition of technical skills and knowledge do not automatically guarantee the ability to apply them to practical violent situations, the emphasis of the research is on the spiritual Empowerment of Peacebuilders.

Quelle tâche spécifique l’École catholique en RDC s’assigne-t-elle selon la Convention de 1977 en faveur de la Nation congolaise? Quels sont à la fois son idéal, son identité, son fondement et ses finalités? Quels sont les défis majeurs qu’elle a à relever au regard de la situation présente? Cette thèse montre comment l’école est le cadre privilégié où se forme la jeunesse à la conscience de la responsabilité et de quels atouts dispose l’école catholique à cet effet. La pastorale scolaire en est-elle un atout essentiel? Loin d’être une simple acquisition des connaissances théoriques dans quelques disciplines scientifiques diverses, cette formation se veut plutôt plus intégrale. Celle-ci se définit et s’édifie dès lors sur la base de l’acquis d’une solide culture à la fois scientifique et humaine qui, faisant appel à l’éducation aux Valeurs, sous l’impulsion d’une pastorale scolaire bien organiséé, prépare cette jeunesse à devenir l’élite de demain dont la RDC a grandement besoin pour son développement.

As a comparative study using the diocese of Ahiara (Nigeria) and the archdiocese of Munich and Freising (Germany) as its basis, this work aims at finding out the role of religious education in the unification of cultures and national development in both Nigeria and Germany. Although the method of teaching religion in these two places is different, this study strives to establish the impact of religious education in the practice of religion among young people in both areas of investigation.

Seit dem Zweiten Vatikanischen Konzil hat die Diskussion über die afrikanische Kirche als Institution, in der eigene Probleme selbstverantwortlich gelöst und neue pastorale Methoden entwickelt werden, an Bedeutung gewonnen. So werden in dieser Studie die aktuellen Fragen der afrikanischen Kirche am Beispiel von Tansania näher betrachtet. Dabei werden Alternativen entwickelt, wie der christliche Glaube durch die Begegnung und Auseinandersetzung mit dem „missionarischen“ Fundament, der von den Missionaren geprägten kirchlichen Strukturen durch die einheimischen Bischöfe, Priester, Ordensleute und Laien vertieft und auf Zukunft hin lebendig erhalten werden kann. Dabei wird vor allem auf die eigene Kreativität der Ortskirche verwiesen und die Bedeutung der Zusammenarbeit mit lokalen Partnern aufgezeigt

Nigeria is a multi-religious nation with a federal system of government. Under this situation, politics is played along religious inclination which breeds many conflicts. The author analyses the tenets of the three main religious groups in Nigeria – the African traditional religion, Christianity and Islam – to see how they could co-operate and contribute to peaceful co-existence among Nigerians irrespective of their religious affiliations. For this the book looks into the efforts of some religious leaders and institutions through their dialogues, pronouncements, communiqués and admonitions aimed at implanting peace in Nigeria.

Nigeria is a country with many ethnic nationalities, endowed with different cultures, traditions, languages, religions and histories. The political unity among these ethnic nationalities was merely imposed by the former British colonial government. The consequence of the enforced national unity today is constant inter-ethnic and inter-religious conflict. The researcher argues that Nigeria needs to implement religious freedom, and maintain the secular status of the country as declared in the constitution of the land, as a way of calming the tension in the country, and bringing the people together whose co-existence is severed by the religious dichotomy.
